How do I write a good thesis statement about men objectifying womens bodies ?
The question I have is, ‘ Are only men to blame for the objectification of women’s bodies ? ‘
Now I need to come up with a thesis statement that contains a frame of reference i.e social background, an actual claim and a ground plan.
If you could help me out I’ll really appreciate it, Thank You?
Remember that your thesis statement has to rely on the facts, which you have researched and which you will further develop in your essay! so I can not produce it for you not knowing what you think or have researched)))
Concerning the topic you have – you should do your research googling the following:
– What is objectification? (just for you to get the general idea about the topic)
– Are men responsible for the objectification of women’s body?
– empowerment as self-objectification
(Remember that to have a quality research and, thus, a quality essay, you should read and cite credible sources so I recommend skipping reading all non-credible sources from your search results)
The case is women often display nudity and express interest in sex and treat it as empowerment, as now they are not compelled to be just good housewives and hide their sexuality. This is obvious in the social media and some feminists openly support such portrayals in ads. Still, such empowerment actually objectifies women’s bodies.
At the same time, some feminists believe it’s a men’s evil plan to make women believe that objectification of their bodies is what they themselves want and need. Gill’s 2008 article “Empowerment/Sexism: Figuring Female Sexual Agency in Contemporary Advertising” argues for this idea in a great way!
The topic is debatable and there is no right answer! For you, the right answer will be the one you can support with sound arguments from reputable sources.
Your thesis statement and your essay will depend on your position and on arguments and facts you have researched.
Eventually, it will sound something like,
“Since objectification, and self-objectification in particular, makes no sense if men are taken away from the discourse, men are the only ones responsible for the objectification of women’s bodies” or
“Considering multiple examples of self-objectification and objectification of women bodies in advertisements targeted at women, men cannot be considered the only ones responsible for the objectification of women’s bodies”.
